Hello,
Unwoven energizes connection, unweaving our differences to reveal our commonalities. In creating our first issue, we discovered elements of storytelling that called to existential threads of grief, joy, and contemporary injustice— a probing of death and its connections to the living.
Our first issue represents a culmination of vision and hope. We envision a publication that fosters community, invests in diverse creative expression, and connects artistic disciplines. As we share our inaugural issue with you, the Unwoven team collaborates with local organizations to collapse barriers to writing and artistic education. Soon, we will offer workshops and readings outside of academia.
As a way to draw Unwoven’s imagined future closer, we are committed to featuring collaborations between artistic disciplines in each issue. Andre Barker, an Afro-Surreal artist, and poet, Ola Faleti shared landscapes, techniques, and embodied histories to achieve what we now have as a textual-visual fusion.
Unwoven, an evolving magazine and brand, owes its existence to our amazing editorial team and contributors. Our team enables Unwoven to be a force of literary and artistic excellence. This work will astound you through craft, vulnerability, and potency.
To end, join us in contributing to our collective + archive of artistic genius! For an emerging, unlikely, or institutionally forgotten writer, we hope you will be inspired to add your thread through response, submission, or however you resonate with Issue 1 of Unwoven Literary & Arts Magazine.
With much love,
Unwoven Founders - Michelle Alexander, Lor Clincy, and Madeline McConico
